Wynd Tracker

What is it?

Monitor your air quality on the go with the Wynd Air Quality Tracker. It senses airborne particulate matter—including dust, allergens, and industrial pollution—in real time. The Tracker connects to the free Wynd app so that you can learn more about what's in the air around you. Using the built-in clip, the Tracker can attach onto clothes or other objects. Please note that the Tracker does not come with the Wynd Purifier.

Why do I need it?

Air pollution is becoming a more and more serious health risk. In fact, regular exposure to air pollution can have the same health consequences as smoking a pack of cigarettes a day. And, with pollution from cars, factories, wildfires, chemicals, and pollen constantly surrounding us, knowing what's in our air is more important than ever. For more information on how air pollution affects health, check out this article.

Does it work?

Named one of the Best Inventions of 2016 by TIME Magazine, the Wynd Tracker is highly accurate. It’s comparable to much more expensive (and larger) sensors. And, many of those large and expensive sensors stop working over time because grime and pollutants throw off their mechanisms. To avoid this, we engineered the tracker to remain highly accurate over time through dynamic calibration and an internal design that protects sensitive components from accumulating dust. But don't take our word for it. Here's what people are saying about the Tracker:

"You can't see what's in the air that you breathe. But the sensor attached to the Wynd air purifier can figure that out for you"- Tom's Guide

"Instead of being tied to one particular room or area, Wynd can adapt to different environment." - PSFK

"Wynd has some tricks up its sleeve. First off, a detachable sensor on the bottom of the device can moonlight as a standalone wearable, constantly assessing the air you breathe" - CNET

Smallest particulate sensor on the market

We spent 18 months developing our own patent-pending, particulate matter sensor because everything on the market was too big—and too inaccurate. We created the smallest commercial particulate sensor in the world. The Wynd Air Quality Tracker is highly accurate: It’s comparable to much more expensive (and larger) sensors. And, many of those large and expensive sensors stop working over time because grime and pollutants throw off their mechanisms. To avoid this, we engineered the tracker to remain highly accurate over time through dynamic calibration and an internal design that protects sensitive components from accumulating dust. The Tracker has a very high correlation (0.99) with high-end lab-grade, professional air quality sensors. The chart below shows a test we conducted of the Wynd Air Quality Tracker prototype vs. a lab-grade sensor, and yields a correlation of 0.99 (the highest is 1.00):

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What do the different colors mean?

Teal: 0-50 AQI (0 to 12 ug / m3) - Air quality is considered satisfactory, and air pollution poses little or no risk = <1 cigarette a day

Yellow: 51-100 AQI (12 to 35 ug / m3) - Air quality is acceptable; however, for some pollutants there may be a moderate health concern for a very small number of people who are unusually sensitive to air pollution = 5 cigarettes a day

Orange: 101-150 AQI (35 to 55 ug / m3) - Members of sensitive groups may experience health effects. The general public is not likely to be affected = 10 cigarettes a day

Red: 151-200 AQI (55 to 150 ug / m3) - Everyone may begin to experience health effects; members of sensitive groups may expereince more serious health effects = 15 cigarettes a day

Pink: 201-300 AQI (150 to 250 ug / m3) - Health warnings of emergency conditions. The entire population is more likely to be affected = 20 cigarettes a day

Purple: 300+ AQI (250 to 1000 ug / m3) - Health alert: everyone may experience more serious health effects = 25 cigarettes a day

How do I know it's on?

The LED on the device will blink white once.

How do I know Bluetooth is pairing?

The LED will continuously blink white.

How do I know it has successfully paired?

The LED will glow green.

The Tracker won't turn back on - what's wrong?

If the Tracker is low on battery it will blink orange three times before shutting off. If this is not the case, the device may be damaged. You can reach support at support@hellowynd.com

Another issue may be that environmental factors are interfering with operations. The Tracker's operational environment is:

Temperature: -10 to 45 degrees C, 14 to 113 degrees F

Humidity: <85 rH

Useful life: 2 years

How do I charge the Tracker?

How do I pair the Tracker to the app?

Step 1: Open the Wynd app

Step 2: Navigate to the Devices tab

Step 3: Tap "Add a new device"

Step 4: Tap "A Bluetooth device..."

Step 5: Tap either "Just a new Tracker-no new Purifier" or "A new Purifier and a new Tracker"

Step 6: Follow the on-screen instructions

Where can I find the app?

The Wynd app is available for both iOS and Android in both the App Store and Android Store.

How do I attach the Tracker to my clothing?

There is a built-in clip on the back of the Tracker. Simply apply pressure to the indentation on the back of the device to open the clip and attach the Tracker to your clothing, bag, backpack, stroller, etc.

The air quality numbers keep changing...is it broken?

No, due to the random nature of air currents, air composition is constantly changing as air flows around you. If you find the refresh rate too frequent for your taste, simply lower it in the Wynd app and a more constant number will be displayed.

The air quality readings are off - what do I do?

Air quality readings can vary for a number of reasons. Due to the random nature of air currents, air quality can vary significantly even in small space and even more across a larger region. This can be confusing as good air quality regions can be adjacent to low air quality regions. Furthermore, the Tracker monitors PM 2.5 and PM 10 size particles. Particles that are larger or smaller may not be detected and household particles not typically considered pollutants, such as air fresheners, may be registered as pollutants by the Tracker.
